Behind the Pygmalion Academy programme is Pygmalion Language Centre, a language centre founded in Latvia in 2003. About the centre

A story many families will recognise

  1. You moved abroad for new opportunities

A new country, a new language all around - a new life.

  2. School and friends speak the local language

Your child picks up the new language - and uses it more and more in everyday life.

  3. There is less and less Russian

They understand the language but answer briefly; reading and writing in it are already harder than speaking.

  4. Sound familiar?

Their first language weakens - and with it go the books, the traditions and the link to their roots.

  5. Keep the link to their roots

We help your child keep their first language through literature, live discussion and talking with children their own age.

Programmes 2026/2027

The main Russian language and literature programmes for children aged 6–17 help build speech, vocabulary, thinking and a wider view of the world - through reading, discussion and live conversation.

In the discussion clubs for ages 12–17, children learn to think more deeply, to argue a case and to express ideas of their own.

For children and teenagers aged 6–17 who do not speak Russian yet, a Russian-as-a-foreign-language course is available, A1–C1 - from the first words to confident command of the language.

Which course suits your child?

What a lesson looks like

Your child learns from home together with the teacher and the group.

  • An online lesson

Lessons run on Zoom - all you need is a computer or tablet with a camera.

  • In a small group

The teacher sees and hears every child - each of them gets the chance to speak.

  • A conversation, not a lecture

Dialogue, games and discussing what we read - your child does a lot of the talking, in Russian.

From your enquiry to the first lesson

  1. Your enquiry

Send an enquiry through the site, or write to us.

  2. A reply within one working day

Our manager gets in touch within one working day, answers your questions and learns more about your child.

  3. Meeting and group matching

We meet your child and suggest a suitable group by age and level.

  4. A convenient time

We agree the timetable and the payment for the first month.

  5. Lessons begin

The first 2–3 weeks are an adaptation period. If the group is not the right level, we move your child to another.

At Pygmalion Academy we help children keep what matters most - their first language, their culture and the link to their roots.

  • Live conversation

Lessons in small groups: reading, discussing, sharing ideas.

  • Favourite books in Russian

Real literature - a reason to talk, argue and think in Russian.

  • A supportive community

Peers from families on the same journey - it is easier together.

  • Confidence in their roots

Language and culture stay part of the child's life - and become a source of confidence.
